another five hours is also not as nice

I've been having a pretty good time here. It's really hot. They put me on the substance-free floor, which should be interesting. The upside is that any parties probably won't be near my room. Unless you consider "up" to be "near". But I don't. Unless the up isn't that far. Gad, I should shut up.

But I won't.

I'm all unpacked and set up. I didn't bring a lot. Like, maybe half the stuff my roomate did. meh. I could probably use some stuff I didn't bring, but I'll be ok. I'll get it eventually. Or I won't.

I went into the local city today, that we're in. But we're not in the middle of the city. We're in the forest. well, the "forest." That's what they call the Drew Campus. And we got to the bank right as it closed. So I couldn't get my debit/ATM card. I'm going to go monday.

I'm meeting a lot of cool people. They have a lot of nice things planned for us to do. It's a good time.

yes, less than five hours of sleep is good!

[/sarcasm]

and yes, I know that I don't use UBB code on here, HTML is used, but I think it hides it if I try to really make it HTML. with the angle brackets and carp. feh.

anyway, I have to get up at 6 to go to college! yay! hrm. or maybe not yay. I mean for the time, not for going to college. I have to go, and I don't know when I'll be able to get my computer at college and connect, so I don't know when I'll be able to talk to anyone. Check back here for updates. or email me. or AIM=quentin mcalmott.

later.

this makes me sneeze

or

return of the son of the attack of the holy crap why haven't I packed yet

Yeah, I'm leaving in 31 hours, and I'm not packed yet. Like, not at all. I've got some stuff out, stuff that we bought because I had to get new carp.

Today, I can't really even think of what I did. Oh yeah, I went and got a clock, a 128-cd case, and some magic cards. I got some nice cards in the 8th edition (Core Set) boosters. You know, Coat of Arms, Thorn Elemental, Wrath of God, and a foil COP: Red, along with 4 (4!) other foil cards. I mean, when I got 150 cards, and the foil card odds are one card in 70, and I got 5, that's one in 30 cards, so I ended up way ahead of the game. But I got the cards at the Citadel, because the place I normally go to was closed (why can't I remember the name of the place?). The place wasn't that good. They only have old (urza's block) singles, and the prices for the boosters aren't good.

feh, I'm out.

Why can't I stop sneezing?

Yes, that was an embellishment. four or five times doesn't quite constitute "can't stop."

However, "can't stop" is a good song. And a nice video, too.

Anyway, last night after I got my sheets out of the dryer and brought them upstairs (at 1:45), my cat came in the room and was walking around on my bed for a while. So I had a hard time making my bed. I managed to get the fitted sheet onto the mattress before he lied down in the middle of the bed. Now, when I say middle, I'm not just talking about the middle in terms of longways orshortways. I'm talking about getting any closer to the exact center of the bed would require lazer measurements (and he just made me let him out again). So I thought that if I put the flat sheet on top and put it on him, he wouldn't like that and so he'd get up. I put that sheet on, then the blanket and the cover over that. Of course, he's not moving. I put the pillow in its case, and lied down next to him, and tried to wait for him to get up. He didn't, so I put the sheets on him a few times, and then (finally), forty-five minutes after I got upstairs, he finally got up and left the room.

So I got up this morning after five and a quarter hours of sleep for my Great-Uncle's Funeral. I don't get a lot of Christian funeral rituals and such. I, maybe because I've been brought up with them, like the Jewish ones better. I don't like open casket funerals. There's a Jewish teaching or saying or something, that the reason that Jewish funerals are closed-casket is becuase one doesn't want to remember the last time seeing that person when they're lying in their casket, one wants to remember them full of life. For the burial, the Jewish custom is that everyone helps to actually bury the casket; i.e. there's a mound of dirt and shovels, and everyone takes a spadeful of dirt and puts it on the lowered casket. It helps with closure, you don't just leave the casket up on the straps. Also, the family buries the person, not people that never knew him or her. Also, the ritual of leaving a small stone on the headstone is nice, because it's something that people can do as a ritual. I don't know, maybe there's prayers that fulfill the same purpose, but I don't know.

Anyway, I slept in the car coming home from song 2 to song 10 on BNL's "Maybe You Should Drive" album. It's good.

I then took a two and a half hour nap. When I woke up, I was surprised by my sister having a friend over in the next room. meh.

that's about all that happened today, well, I ate supper, which is good. but yeah.

look! I'm updating two days in a row!

even if by the time I post this, it'll still be sunday. it's two days in a row. or else!

last night, I didn't sleep much. feh.

today, I went to a wake for my great-uncle. who I don't ever remember seeing.

So my cousin brought her son (david, technically also my cousin [yes, my cousin david mentioned before]) really late, right as we were leaving. My aunt (his grandmother) had already left, so it wouldn't work out to bring him to supper (my mom, sister, aunt, and I were going to eat). sigh.

so we ate at this place that was really good. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich. I haven't had a decent one of those in a while. Speaking of which, I'm hungry now, because that's all I've had all day. And I can't remember what I ate yesterday. I need to go put my sheets in the dryer. Because I don't want to sleep in the wet.

when $50 isn't enough, kick customers out

yesterday, I went to the Shack and then to the mall with amanda. I got three cds for 42 bucks. or around 42. It may have been 43. Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon", Dashboard Confessional "A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar", and Barenaked Ladies "Maybe you should drive". I haven't listened to the BNL one yet. Anyway, that was fun.

I did some shopping later for college stuff. I also (jumping to today) did some shopping. I got some stuff I need, like a mouse, a dictionary, and some supplies.

Went bowling with Matt and Bryan. It was pretty good. My high score was a 133, but it was the only game I won (and by one at that). So we played for two hours, and then we hung around and talked. At 11, the owner came over and asked us if we had a ticket. We said we didn't, so he said we had to leave. That really was nice of him. I mean, we came, spent 60 dollars, and then we couldn't hang out there after we stopped being profitable. we weren't making a riot or anything; we could barely talk with the loud noise. feh, whatever.

I go to college thursday. I can't wait.

getting lazier and lazier

well, I'm bored. bored to the point of almost going to bed. no, seriously. and it's only 11:18. PM. this is three hours earlier than I've been to bed in weeks. feh. I'm not going to bed. maybe some chatroom annoyances.

today, I had pizza for supper. Did you know Pizza Hut isn't in the phone book? stupid pizza hut. tomorrow, I have to get a mouse, a backpack, and also get my haircut and go to the chiropractor. and off I go again to play solitare. gah.

Hrm, I forget where I was going with this. because I just spent half an hour looking at Weird Links.

my admisson

or confession, if you will. An act of contrition. Perhaps that's more proper. Best phrased as a question.

Why the hell do I play so much solitare/hearts/minesweeper?

hrm, maybe it's not that good as a question.

I play too much solitare/hearts/minesweeper!

Yes, that reads better as an exclamation.

ha, that was a letdown, wasn't it? I mean, you were expecting it to be something a little more interesting.

back to it:

So, I've been playing quite a lot of those games while I'm waiting for websites to load and when I get bored and such. I mean, as soon as I finished typing "So, I've been playing quite a lot," I stopped, and, without thinking, opened hearts. What the hell is wrong with me? Right now I went and opened up minesweeper! Holy fark! I even messed around with the custom settings of it to the point that I have it to the largest that is possible (24X30), and a tenth of the maximum mines that are possible (67). [My best time is 50 seconds]. But I spend so much time playing them, it's annoying! If I only had faster internet, then I wouldn't have to wait for the pages to load. But I do. So that's just another reason that I can't wait to get to college.

Today, I did basically nothing. Got up, ate (I think I ate when I got up, maybe I didn't. No, wait, I did. I had hotdogs), watched some tv, then went out for supper. yeah, fun.

Sunday, August 17, 2003

So of course, last night, I only got to sleep at 3

Because that's how it goes.

Today I woke up at noon when stephanie called. you laugh, but it's true. So I went over to the mall for an hour or so and then dropped her off at Laura's to go to the parade.

Then I went home and went to the parade. Dropped my sister off with the band, and brought my mom up to the checkin booth. I hung around there for a little while, and then went down to the reviewing stand, where I was waiting for the parade. I found Joe Peabody there, so we hung out until Andy Makepeace came, and then the three of us watched the parade. It was pretty good.

After, I helped my mom count up the votes (there were three judges on the reviewing stand) (because she was in charge of the parade, and Waterford Week in general). Then we went over and awarded the trophies, and such.

I talked to some people that I know in band, and had a hot dog and soda. Speaking of which, I need sprite. So I'm done.

one would think I would go to bed

But one would be wrong. Well, right, but I'm not. Gad, I'm tired all of a sudden.

I really should be, because I can't think of what the hell has happened in the past few days.

Well, my monitor stopped working today. So it's a really good thing I know the layout of my desktop and how to use the "tab" key. It really helps when you have to type blo=ined. So I'm sorrryu for any typing mistakesse that you may find in herke. heh.

Yeah, so I replaced the monitor with an old one we had. Well, by "I," I mean "my father mainly did it, but he had said he didn't want to do any work. bastage.

let's see, what else happened to me. Yes, Katie apparently read this and decided to IM me and start bitching at me. sigh.

Tomorrow is the last day of Waterford Week (finally [I think it's odd that it takes more than a week, but oh well, it's over]). Then my mom'll be less hectic.

I'm less tired now. I think it was the sprite. Mmm, 26 g of sugar per serving. that's good sugar. Fructose! or sucrose. it's either, or both. I'm not sure.

That's all for now.

fog and fire

Today was pretty good. I went to Stop and Shop and got 270 hot dogs for after the waterford week parade, because my mom's in charge of such stuff. We also got some cookies and stuff for us. mmm, cookies. I want to have some now. But I probably shouldn't.

Stephanie Zakrajsek (I know I spelled that wrong) called me, and so I asked her if she wanted to come to the Variety Show at Quaker Hill School. So, as it turned out, I picked her up from the mall and we went over, watched it. It was pretty good. Some of the old people danced too long. At the end, Todd Spitz and Kyle Pias did some firestaff/poi (not the fish). It was good, but they need to do more of a show, like, talk.

Then we hung around there for a little bit, and headed over to Regal Cinemas and saw SWAT. It was a good movie. Ok, let me list who came:
  1. myself

  2. Stephanie

  3. Chris Neilan

  4. Joe Peabody

  5. his girlfriend, Melissa

  6. Todd

  7. Kyle

  8. Mandy McKenna

  9. this kid who looks like "beans" from Even Stevens

  10. Ashley

  11. Justin Yu

So after the movie, I brought Stephanie back to Colchester (a half hour drive each way, I timed it) and she borrowed my fish until the next time I see her. We listened to some Dashboard Confessional in the car and talked, it was fun.

Route 11 is really foggy now. When I was coming back, I counted, and I couldn't see for more than one and a half seconds in front of me for a lot of the drive. It was annoying, because my window kept fogging up, and so I'd put on my defroster. Of course, it was really hot because it's hot outside (pretty damn warm for midnight [at the time]). The defroster made the car warmer. So after the windshield was defogged, I'd turn on the ac, which would kinda help with the heat, but before it really did much, it would refog the windshield, so I'd have to turn on the defroster. And that's the end of that chapter.

Ok, I'm getting to bed relatively early tonight. Only 2:30.

why yes, sending inapproprite emails using your work email is a good idea

Today I drove my mom places for stuff. Yeah. I need to get a mouse for my laptop that I'm getting at college.

I got an email today that was forwarded from many people (email was basically the same as was found at snopes with minor differences). At the bottom was

It's funny when people send personal emails from their work account. It's never a good idea to do that.

AIM is my bitch

the AIM download worked (finally), and it installed well. But, of course, dead AIM didn't, so I reinstalled it to make AIM better.

I'm going on beaverwarrior69 to make fun of people in chatrooms.

evil me.

Note: don't drive at midnight down dark twisty roads listening to "She Drives Like Crazy" (a parody of "She Drives Me Crazy by some 80s band) because it has a bunch of crashing sounds and skidding tires. It's rather startling, at times

The RLA met again tonight. Much fun was had, then I brought matt home again because he still can't drive because he's on drugs. He's trying to go cold turkey, though. Watched Denis Leary being roasted on comedy central. You know, a little bit of marinade and some pineapple on a kebob...mmm.

I went to Annie Get Your Gun (Waterford Week Play) today with my parents, sister, and grandparents. Well, technically not my mom and sister because my sister did props, and my mom introduced the play, being as that she's co-chair of Waterford Week, so they didn't sit with us or anything. It was good, but by intermission, I wanted it to be over. It was quite long. Like almost three hours, including intermission (15 minutes). Long carping play.

There's nothing on tv. why is there nothing on tv? gah.

I'm rather bad at whatever 007 game for Gamecube we were playing at the RLA. Except when we're using the sentinel gun, which I'm really good at, especially for that I only use a controller like that for playing games at friends' houses, and I never play FPS' anyway. But I'm pretty damn good for that when using the sentinel.

I have to go through a bunch of channels on tv and edit out the ones that aren't actually channels I get, just scrambled, because the "auto program" doesn't do shit. And no, those channels aren't porn. I'm keeping the porn. I mean, there aren't any with porn. ha. ha. ha. now stop reading.

This AIM upgrade better work, because I already downloaded it one and a half times. The first time, the file was corrupted, or something, and the install wouldn't work, and the half was from six o'clock today when my dad made me get offline so we could go to supper, because him waiting five minutes to eat is inconcievable.

AIM convo:
quentin mcalmott: Atlanta Braves' shortstop Rafael Furcal turns only the 12th unassisted triple play in baseball history
book7460: eh, but he can't hit worth shit

Oh sure, now I come in on to the end of American Gladiators. I think I know why the one guy lost. Becuase he has a mullet and a really ugly mustache.

I really wish I wasn't tired at 5 pm and awake at 3 am. couldn't it be reversed? I mean, I got to sleep only at 3:45 today (yesterday), but I could have definately stayed up for a while longer. Stupid Circadian Cycle again. Why can't it be like the bug and go underground for seven years?

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Rubik's mania! muahaha!

Thank you, fark, for rubik's cube online! However, I wonder why someone would want a rubik's cube now that they can go online any time they want.

Oh yes, it must be so they can complete the rubik's cube during freefall?

gbert/quentin "It bothers me that I can't quite hit the 'equals' button without looking constantly" mcalmott

I can't think of a title, so I'm just going to go with this

or

I've been online for almost an hour, and haven't typed anything yet

heh, so a while ago (two or three days), I went out with my father for supper, and we talked and crap. so I'm talking to him again, he just didn't know how frustrated I was with everything, not just about the stupid shovel.

Ok, today I was woken up (well, I was kinda awake, but not really) when Steph Z. called and wanted to know if I wanted to see a movie. I said I did, and so we (her, Laura Hall, and I) went to Westbrook and saw Freaky Friday. ha. Did you know that matinee prices are $4.75 with tax? That's crazy. Anyway, there was this like 30-year old guy that sat next to me, alone. It was odd. At one point in the movie, he turned and started talking to me. Feh. Not a bad movie, I guess. At least no one fakes playing instruments in it.

Then I came home, made supper, and Chris called (he's home from the Citadel for a week), and so I went over and had an RLA. It was ok. We need to figure out something to do other than watch one of us play computer games. Maybe we can play Risk. Such a good game. Chris wants, next year at the Citadel (and I also suggested it before he said he had already thought of it), to play knob chess or checkers. I thought Stratego would be fun. ha. as long as he's not lit on fire.

Wow, that went quick, once I started. Maybe because I only stopped to look at the records for solving a 3x3x3 rubik's cube underwater with no breathing equipment. And I'm out.

I like to spite construction workers

Today I went to the senior center, and I was supposed to look up phone numbers of Waterford voters from 50 to 60. They gave me a large packet of everyone in waterford from age 45 to 75. Well, all voters 45 to 75 in voting districts 1 and 2, and voters 45 to 55 in districts 3 and 4. So I worked for an hour, looking up phone numbers. And, they couldn't have done it easily and put it alphabetically by last name, no, that would have been smart. They had the list of voters by location. Because people are stupid. I wanted to use anywho to get the numbers, but I thought getting them to let me on a computer would be more of a hassle than it's worth. So I worked for an hour getting the numbers, and then when the person who tells me what to do there came back, she said she didn't need all of the people; they just need 30 voters from 50 to 60 for a phone survey. So I had 70 people's numbers, so that was enough.

Going home, I remembered that Andrew had said he was at Strawberries, and he had seen Weird Al's cd "UHF," so I decided to go over and see if it was still there. Now, I was expecting it not to be, because I've been looking for it for years.
but...
it was there! woohoo! I bought it (for $14.99, quite a bargain), and listened to it on the way home.

Then, on Great Neck, right before the hill, there was a group of construction workers doing something off to the right side, and, so of course, they had one person for each lane with a "slow" sign. And the guy that was off to my side was looking at each driver and tapping the "slow" sign, like he was yelling at each driver. I had quite a desire to drive by going about 60 several times just to spite him.

buy uhf!

bored and tired

hrm. called kristin yesterday. we may do something sometime (I hope).

I've been playing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy a lot. it's fun. play it. Text-based games are fun.

I'm sadly talking to my dad, a little, now. just barely, though. feh.

going to the senior center tomorrow to work again.

I'm going to try to open the door in the game.

Tuesday, August 05, 2003

wow, I've been dramatic lately

yeah, reading through these last posts...yeesh.

anyway, today I went to the senior center and volunteered. meh, it was ok. The person that was in charge left really quickly for a meeting, so I didn't have anything to do, and the secretaries had to keep finding stuff. It was kinda annoying.

I need to do stuff, I'm sure, but I can't think of what it is/don't feel like it.

life throws me a curveball. and by curveball I mean baseball bat to the face

Well, that's oddly appropriate. Instead of explaining the minutae of the day, I'll just skip to about 10 minutes ago. I called Kristin, and her mom answered. When I asked for Kristin, she said that she was at a friend's, and asked if I wanted her number (the friend's), and then asked me if I knew what had happened. On Friday, Kristin was in a car accident, and it was somewhat serious; she spent time in the hospital, and has stitches on her face and arm. So her mom's telling her that I called.

I'm going to call her tomorrow, maybe late-afternoonish. Because she's not working until at least Friday.

*sigh*

why in the hell can't I think of a title?

Today, nothing really happened. How about we skip to after supper. Yes, that sounds good.

Whee! It's after supper! And about 8:30 or so. I went to call Kristin, but her line was busy. Then Stephanie called, and I talked to her for a while, then at like 9:40, I called Kristin again, and her line was still busy. I think I'm going to call tomorrow night again. Heh, this would be really nice to do before I have to leave for college. and carp.

I think other stuff happened today, but I couldn't tell you what. Maybe it would be a good idea to get decent sleep.

Meh, I'm off to annoy people online.

lazy update 2.0

I hadn't planned to not write much, but feh.

Yesterday, my family celebrated my father's birthday! And I'm still not talking to him. So my mom came up to me and asked if I "would be civil," because my father made her. To me, I was being civil the whole time. I was saying nothing that was antagonistic. She asked me if I could give him a card and say "happy birthday," and I couldn't. So she said she'd go down and tell my father that he could come up and talk to me. But, about 20 minutes later, I came downstairs, and they had left for supper. Because he doesn't have the balls to come up and talk to his son.

So I went out and got McDonald's, because I didn't want to eat anything in the house. About a minute after I got back, they came back. So I ate, then went bowling with the RLA.

that's about it.

lazy update 1.0

Nothing much really happened today. Well, I say that, but I'll probably end up typing quite a bit.

I helped my mom figure out where to put the groups of people for the Waterford Week parade. Like, when they line up along Great Neck Road, we decided how much space everyone needed, then walked it out to see where they'd go.

I went to Park and Recreation to see if they had any jobs or stuff that I could volunteer to do, and CJ was there (yes chris, her, I know you're reading this [well, not at the moment, but you will be]). So I talked to her while my mom talked to whoever I was supposed to be talking to. So I'm doing something for someone on tuesday and wednesday, I think.

wow, that wasn't quite a bit. I win!
