draft talk

there's been some talk about a draft going on. Also see our discussion at se-ct.com.

Anyway, the talk is this: there are two bills, HR 163 and S 89 (both links from the library of congress website), that are copies of each other, that both require two years of service of every person living in the United States. They've both been getting some press lately. However, I'm not as worried as some might be. Both bills have been stalled in subcommittee for over a year (see HR 163 and S 89). That means, that the bills have been sitting for over 16 months. The library of congress does update their website more often than that. 307 bills were introduced in the period from May 17 to today, May 24. I'm fairly confident that those bills are not doing anything right now. They haven't been taken out into discussion even, not among the floor of the House or Senate, nor have they even been brought out of subcommittee. It seems good for now.
